The National Research Award


Introduction

The establishment of the National Research Award is considered a translation and partial realization of the National Research Strategy 2008-2020.The Award aims to encourage researchers to conduct high quality research of national importance.

Award Objectives


  • Encourage researchers to continue their activities and initiatives in conducting high quality research.
  • Encourage the development of the research culture and enhance the quality of the research output in the Sultanate of Oman.
  • Increase research output, that is relevant and of important to the Sultanate of Oman.
  • Increase the level of awareness about TRC and its various initiative and programs to support research and innovation.

Categories of the Award


  • Category I: Best published research led by a PhD holder or equivalent (Consultant or senior consultant in the medical field)
  • Category II: Best published research led by a young researcher (a non-PhD holder)

Category I: Best published research led by a PhD holder or equivalent

Conditions:

§  The applicant must be the first Author* of the published research

§  The applicant must be a PhD holder or equivalent (Consultant or senior consultant for the medical field)

§  The research topic must be of relevance to the Sultanate of Oman and falls under one of the six research fields of the award.

§  The published research must not have won any other award in or out of Oman.

§  The research must have been published after the 30th of April 2013 in a refereed scientific journal indexed in Scopus, Web of Science or in one of the Arabic periodicals listed Here.

§  The applicant is allowed to submit only one application for the award.

§  All applications will be excluded if the applicant submit more than one application

§  Researchers must be willing to provide any information that may be requested by TRC.

§  The Award evaluation committee’s members are not allowed to compete for the Award.

§  The evaluation committee’s decision shall be considered final and no objection in this regard will be entertained.

§  Applicants must provide a No-Objection statement from each one of the research team members.

§  The Award Winners must be willing to present their wining researches at the annual Researcher Forum.

§  Applications for the Award must be completed electronically through the Research Council’s website and with the required documents attached.

Category I I: Best published research led by a young researcher (a non-PhD holder)

Conditions:

§  The applicant should be the first Author* of the published research.

§  The applicant should be a non-PhD holder at the time the research was published.

§  The research topic must be of relevance to the Sultanate of Oman and falls under one of the six research fields of the award.

§  The published research must not have won any other award in or out of Oman.

§  The research must have been published after the 30th of April 2013 in a refereed scientific journal indexed in Scopus, Web of Science or in one of the Arabic periodicals listed Here.

Award Second Cycle 2015

For the second consecutive year, TRC celebrated the winners of the National Research Award (NRA) by awarding 12 research projects, under the various six sectors, at a ceremony that coincided with the Annual Research Forum.

The NRA was launched on July 20th, 2014, and the first winners were awarded in October 2014. The following table shows the number of submitted and winning research projects under the six sectors for 2015:

Competing at the NRA 2015 were 83 research projects; 57 led by PhD holders and 27 from junior researchers. 6 research projects won the NRA under the research led by the PhD holder’s category while another 6 research projects won under the junior researcher’s category in five sectors.
